What to do with a cat that appeared outside?

Hi there.

We currently have our own cat and have for 6-7 years. This cat appeared outside and hasn't really moved since. He has appeared before over numerous years but always goes back home, however this time is different. He sleeps outside and it is quite cold especially at night as it is winter where I live.

As much as we would love to have him, we don't want him. It would be unfair on our current cat and we don't know the medical history of this cat.

How can we get rid of him? He is very friendly, would make such a great family pet or a companion for an elderly person.

We know where about he lives, so at night time we have been walking over in that direction (Probably 100-150metres) and dropping food for him in the hope he will go home, but he keeps coming back.

What can we do? We don't want to be mean to him, but he cant stay outside for ever plus he might get sick as it is quite cold.

Please help.

He's not happy with his current home situation and is trying to move in with you. The best thing to do is to talk with the owners about him and see if they're willing to give him up. Perhaps then another home can be found for him if you don't want him.

I would talk to the owners since it sounds like he isn't content there. Maybe a local no kill shelter/ humane society would be the best option? Poor guy :/

Do you have a local shelter? They can see if the cat has a microchip(and a family already) and if not they can get the cat treated for any illness, fixed, and also find it a home.

Go talk to the owners and tell them your concerns. Just as with children, it takes a village.....
