how should I request payment for $6000 cregslist?

high so I'm selling a high end trading computer and I'm going to request payment in person since it makes more sense. but how should I do it.

It would be strange to request $6000 in cash, but I can't except credit cards, and I wouldn't know if the check is fake until after I try and deposit it.

I wouldn't part with an item to a stranger via Craigslist in any other way but cash. There is nothing strange about protecting yourself by insisting on cash. The buyer surely has a bank account be it checking or savings. If he balks at cash, meet him at his bank and witness him get a certified check made out to you from the teller.

    Nothing strange about this.

Cash only. Forget about cashier's checks -- there are way too many counterfeit check scams and Craigslist is a prime site for scammers. You will get lots and lots of scam responses to your ad.

This happens all the time. Meet at the nearest police station. If the buyer won't go there, you know he was not legit. It protects him too. Cash only.

cash only. In person only. Preferably at a bank so they can confirm they aren't fake.

I wouldn't do cash because carrying that large of amount of money can be very risky. I highly recommend having your buyer use a Cashier's check from the bank. Call a local bank that is most common in your area and ask them if they issue Cashier's Checks for non-banking customers if they do, ask how much of a fee they charge to issue a check. Have your buyer go to the bank that issues Cashier's checks to non-banking customers and get a Cashier's check. Be absolutely sure that your Buyer writes down your first and last name spelling correctly. First call the bank and be sure the Cashier's check is legit before handing over your product. Hope this helps :)

CraigsList is scam central: If it were me I would only accept the following: Cash...or if they want to give you a cashier's check, then go directly with them to their bank and have the cashier's check drawn up right in front of you. Don't accept any cashier's check on good faith that is not directly from the bank.

    - Given the value of this item, arrange to meet any buyer in a well traveled area, like in a food court of a busy shopping mall.

Ask for a certified or cashier's check. Meet the buyer at your bank. Explain to the person at the bank about the transaction. They should be able to verify whether the check is authentic.

Or . . . what's wrong with cash? OK, it's a lot. But last year--as part of a real estate transaction--someone wanted to pay me $3,000. (I knew him; he'd been a tenant of mine for a number of years.) To simplify things, he cashed a check for $3,000, then handed the cash to me. It all went very smoothly and he was perfectly OK with the process.

And a few years ago my wife wanted something off of Craigslist. The seller wanted cash. So I went to my bank, got the $1,000 in cash, and paid the seller. No big deal.

    Hope that helps.
