Who are the cowardly in Revelation 21:8?

Yvonne and Sherry are correct. There have been many who denied God or Jesus when faced with death or torture. God can forgive such up to a certain point, Did He not forgive Peter?

However, Peter matured and gained strength, through obedience to God's word and stopped being a coward. We must do the same.

What stupid version of the Bible do you read - Revelation 21:8 in the most accurate English Bible reads thus:-

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. "

There are NO 'cowardly' mentioned in that verse. - -

But the fearful - Having stated, in general terms, who they were who would be admitted into that blessed world, he now states explicitly who would not. The “fearful” denote those who had not firmness boldly to maintain their professed principles, or who were afraid to avow themselves as the friends of God in a wicked world. They stand in contrast with those who “overcome,” Rev_21:7.

And unbelieving - Those who have not true faith; avowed infidels; infidels at heart; and all who have not the sincere faith of the gospel. See the notes on Mar_16:16.

And the abominable - The verb from which this word is derived means to excite disgust; to feel disgust at; to abominate or abhor; and hence the participle - “the abominable” - refers to all who are detestable, to wit, on account of their sins; all whose conduct is offensive to God. Thus it would include those who live in open sin; who practice detestable vices; whose conduct is suited to excite disgust and abhorrence. These must all, of course, be excluded from a pure and holy world; and this description, alas! would embrace a lamentably large portion of the world as it has hitherto been. And whoremongers - See the notes on Gal_5:19.

And sorcerers - See the word used here - φαρμακεῦσι pharmakeusi - explained in the notes on Gal_5:19, under the word “witchcraft.”

And idolaters - 1Co_6:9; Gal_5:19.

And all liars - All who are false in their statements, their promises, their contracts. The word would embrace all who are false toward God Act_5:1-3, and false toward human beings. See Rom_1:31.

Shall have their part in the lake which burneth, ... - notes on Rev_20:14. That is, they will be excluded from heaven, and punished for ever. See the 1Co_6:9-10 notes; Gal_5:19-21 notes.

The book of Revelation is fiction. Give it up. Read the teaching of Jesus. The teaching of Jesus is recorded in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. John is a very important book.

Cowardly: Is cowardice enough to send a person to hell? "John is not speaking of natural timidity, but of that cowardice which in the last resort chooses self and safety before Christ." (Morris) John Trapp spoke of these "Cowardly recreants, white-livered milk-sops, that pull in their horns for every pile of grass that toucheth them, that are afraid of every new step."

This is referring to those who are afraid to stand up for Jesus and righteousness, not natural fears of things like snakes or thunderstorms.

Pretty much anyone who doesn't believe in the "correct" god, it would appear.

Anyone who believes that story is a recounting of anything more than a nightmare or bad mushroom trip has my sympathy.
