Why is religion such a big deal?

Because people in life, they need a direction, to show them what is right and wrong, to know what they are doing is real, and to have a purpose of life. We are CERTAINLY not put in the world to create havoc, or to kill, or to burn or whatever stupid stuff.

We need a religion that will soothe us and calm us when we are feeling depressed or worried or stressed.

And if that religion proves peace, honesty, respect, then you know it is the right religion for you. And BTW, even if ur not the same religion as someone else, RESPECT their religion, and u will show a good impression on what ur religion teaches u. I'm MUSLIM, and I really calm when I pray, and it teaches peace and to not KILL a person or punish when they have done wrong, they have to learn. Only Allah s.w.t can punish people truly or decide what's best for them

The single biggest reason I find that people follow a religion is because they believe that they need some direction in their life and something to believe in. Those kinds of people typically don't want to live without thinking that there's some kind of "purpose" to their life since they can't find one of their own.

In large amounts of people, it becomes part of their culture and they feel a need to defend it. There's been plenty of killing and war from religion in the past, and it's because of this feeling the need to defend their culture and themselves that it happens.

It's one of the things that will always hold back the world.

Islam is the true religion due to it is the way of life. It is a preparation for the after life where you either go to jannah (heaven) or jahannum (hell) depends on what or how you have lived your life, it is a test a life of worshipping the one god, Allah. Believing in the last messenger. This life is not meant to be wasted on worldly things or temporary enjoyment sit is where we worship Allah. However we have lots of stuff that you might go into depths on. Islam is the one true religion.

Religions are money making scam.

Imagine the mob protecting their drug cartel. Except that with religion, they don't even have to actually sell something tangible, and that they have been going at it for thousands of years.

They would kill to keep their little racket going.

It is a big deal, because people take it serious.

People who are unable to distinguish between fiction and reality and who take fictional things serious do all kinds of weird stuff.

People who believe religious stories to be true, act as their respective stories tell them to.

If you take the bible serious, christianity would count as a terrorist organization.

Read Deuteronomy 13:12-17 and tell me how many people gods want to be killed, how many cities burnt down.

Because it imposes on mankind and influences every aspect of human existence in a negative way.

Because it burned people alive for so many years
