Why does my cat pee on the floor?

He doesn't have any kind of physical issue (UTI, bladder infection, etc.) He has anxiety issues, but he's already on the highest dose of prozac he can be on. I've taken him to the vet a couple times now, but it just makes his issues a lot worse. So taking him to the vet is A.) not going to help at this point and B.) no longer even an option. He gets really scared really easily, he walks really timidly, he sits in my parents room and cries at night until my mom puts him on their bed, and he pees on the floor. What do i do???

Do you clean the litter box every day? Has the cat been taught to use a litter box? Check the sides of the litter box: are they too high for the cat?

It is also possible that the cat doesn't like the feel of the kitty litter on its paws.

Buy some puppy training pads and put them down where the cat regularly urinates and try putting one in the litter box.

As for the cat's anxiety check the noise and activity level in the house.

If it's not due to a UTI or a bladder infection, it could be due to different things like:-

    - medical conditions like diabetes or kidney problems

    - urine spraying to mark territory (only in male cats who haven't been castrated).

    - if there's too few litter boxes in the home, especially if he's living with another cat or with other cats, leading to competition.

    - if the litter box is placed inappropriately, like in an area of the home which has a high level of foot traffic.

    - if the location of the litter box is difficult for the cat to reach

    - hoods on the box. While it may be convenient for the owner, many cats dislike hoods because they:-

    O make the environment dark

O stop the cat from seeing around to protect themselves down to instinct

O trap smells which cats may not like

    - if the box is dirty i.e. if the litter isn't being scooped enough or the box isn't cleaned regularly enough

    - if the box has been cleaned with a harshly scented cleaner, especially if it's a harsh chemical smell or a citrus scent like lemon

    - if you're using liners. While again it may be convenient for the owner to use litter box liners, many cats don't like them. That's because they don't like the rustling sound or the feel of the liner against their paws when they dig in the litter to bury their waste

    - plastic underlay use

    - if the cat doesn't like their litter. For instance, if they're using fine grain stuff that's getting stuck in their paws

    - if the litter isn't deep enough meaning the cat can't cover solid waste properly

    - difficulty in accessing the box, commonly in older cats who are more likely to suffer mobility issues like arthritis.

In order to deal with this, make sure you scoop and clean the litter box regularly and put it somewhere he can easily access it. Avoid using strong scented cleaners, don't spray air freshener by the litter box and steer clear of scented litter. Make sure he can access it easily and if it has a hood, remove it. If he hasn't been castrated, have him done if he can be. Avoid using liners or plastic underlay. If you've switched litters, switch back to the old one.

    Hope this helps.

another cat is probably intimidating it in the area so marking his territory inside the house.....this links in with his anxiety......solve the other cat issue and it will probably stop the anxiety all together
