I Keep Picking At My Skin?

So it started as a hang nail and I always make things worse. I pull it and I tear it right off the first layer of skin and it will bleed. I made it worse by picking at it with my teeth, tweezers and an x acto knife...and yesterday I pulled off a big layer of skin. It's 1.5 cm in length. It bled. Earlier it had a think layer of skin over it..until I pulled it off. I can't help myself! It's all bloody again now, stings and obviously hurts. But I don't really care, you know? I've done it so much I don't care about the pain.

My dad saw and I complained I wanted to see a doctor.

Is this self harm..? Or just a compulsive disorder. I will pick at my nails and skin when stressed (I've started school and have been really stressed..) or nervous. I don't want to tell my parents I did this on purpose :/ once it heals a bit I just know I'll pick at it again and it'll take a long time to heal. My cat bit me and I made it so much worse, it didn't heal for weeks bcuz I kept poking at it.

Should I keep asking to see the doctor or just will power through it? What should I tell y doctor because obviously he'll ask what happened...

Nothing rude plz.

Thanks,

J

Yes indeed this is a compulsive disorder that is taken care by doing the following 1) You MUST buy small rag type or rubber type of doll, do not put it in your mouth and the very instant you get the urge to pick or pull or do whatever is that you do... do it to the doll. Eventually you will stop. 2) You must practice meditation 15 minutes a day along with breathing at a comfortable rate that works for you, find a space at home or in your room that is assigned specifically for meditation, this will calm and balance the brain and the neurological system, if sitting in silence is difficult you MUST do Yoga at least 3 -5 times a day ...take classes or watch vids on You Tube. You must know that by putting your nails in your mouth you are consuming millions of infectious bacteria that will harm your gums your teeth your guts and eventually your heart.

Some extra homework ask yourself daily: What Am I nervous about and why? Write down immediately the very first answer that comes to mind. Do not second guess just write immediately. Then begin answering and ask: What can you do about the issue that comes out on each answer? Be honest tell yourself the truth and see it as it is not worse that it is and deal with it get courage. It is very important that you turn your shoulds it to musts. Wish you well. You can beat this.

Try putting a bandaid over an area of skin you want to pick at.
