Medic PCSing to Fort Carson?

I just came down on orders to Fort Carson and I will be attached to the 4th BCT; 4th ID. What are some things to consider as a new line medic in this type of unit? I am also a SPC (P) if that helps any.

You'll either go to a line unit or the BSB.

If you go to the line unit, you'l pull sick call when it's your turn before or during PT, and then the rest of the day you'll generally do whatever your platoon of line guys is doing. If they go to the range, you go to the range (to shoot and pull range coverage). If they do a ruck march, you do a ruck march. If they get off early for the day, you get off early. If they go to the field for 3 weeks with no showers, you go to the field for 3 weeks with no showers.

If you go to the BSB (also known as the Bull Sh1t Battalion, because there's just so much bull to deal with), you will pull sick call when it's your turning before/during PT, and then you will spend most of the days hating your life, either pulling medical coverage for other units while they do cool stuff and you just wait for someone to get hurt, or you'll inventory your equipment, All. The. Time. And you'll rarely get to train on trauma, because the rest of the BSB's garrison day-to-day jb is the exact same thing they do on deployment and they don't get the a medical company's deployment mission is much different than its garrison mission.

If you're coming from MEDDAC, keep in mind that either of these is a whole different animal than what you know. So don't go around boasting that you're a SPC(P) and SPC's and below have to listen to you. Shut up, watch, and learn.

Okay ... you are a medic, and a promotable Specialist, and you don't know what to expect as a line medic? Is there no one where you work who has not been a line medic?
