Could have been a squirrel (or a rat). A squirrel got into my home (not sure how, maybe it fell down the chimney). But after it was in my basement and back porch for a few days it must have been getting thirsty because it started chewing thought the cap of a Gatorade bottle that had water in it. I could not chase it out (it would hide), but finally got it to leave by leaving my back door open for a few hours.

Almost any rodent loves to chew on rubber hoses. Rodent damage is a huge problem (they also love wiring!) and lots of ways have been tried to control them. The one that I will try if it comes to my house is in the source. Cheap, lots of good reviews, smells good, non-toxic, can't hurt, might help.

Squirrels will do that, and so will skunks.
