UK news. Should welfare benefits increase the longer a person is on them?

If a person is on JSA for more than 2 years should the weekly payment be increased as it shows commitment form that person?

Just like if you do a job you get a pay rise the longer you're in that job and more holiday allowance. Should it not be the same for Jobseekers?

It also shows they have spent longer than anyone else showing the commitment to look for a job even though they did not get one.

Shall we say £85 per week for first 2 years

£100 a week until 4 years on JSA

£150 a week until 6 years on JSA

With an increase every year.

I can't see who's posting this at the moment but I'll hazard a guess...

If the claimant can show they've been hitting the job application/interview targets and can provide feedback as to why they were not hired each time and the feedback doesn't show any intentional and/or unreasonable sabotage of the interview by the claimant, and as long as no offers of employment have been turned down, then the welfare payments should increase in line with inflation every year.

No Unemployment benefits should be reduced for all under 60 to force the lazy to get Jobs

I am a Brown man was Born in London

If I can Find a Job so can everyone else

You could reward failure this way but I prefer to reward them with concentration camps, where these LOVELY people are rewarded with free food and water plus hard work with the object of finding these oppressed unemployed people a reason to live. I'm sure they would prefer this to hanging around the streets supping cans of Special Brew and stealing from shops in a bid to stay alive.

I doubt job seekers will get anything more next April but MP's have allowed themselves a 11% pay rise

    Ask Ian Duncan Smith.

  • I think if someone is on jaa for six years we should look at why. The investment in training them, coaching them in interview skills and mentoring them, plus the investment in their mental health should increase, but not the money they recieve.

Welfare benefits are there to ensure no one starves when they find themselves between jobs, or unable to earn due to illness or disability

They are not a career choice
