Enlightenment and Slavery?

Enlightenment philosophy, with its adherence to human equality, and the existence of the American institution of slavery present an irreconcilable paradox. First, explain why slavery and Enlightenment are paradoxical. Next explain how is Douglass’ speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July” a response to this paradox? Douglass bases one of his arguments on the existence of Southern laws regarding “the teaching of the slave to read or write.” Summarize Douglass’ argument. Finally, consider the relationship between Douglass’ speech and “The Williams, Hypothesis.

    This is clearly a school assignment. It is not only stupid to fish for information for your academic work but it is also unethical and technically cheating. You can be kicked out of prep school or college for doing this. Don't think instructors don't watch sites like this to see if their students are posting their exam questions. Pretty easy for them to do that AND to cross check students' handed in assignments to see if they've cribbed from others' work. I have several friends who are prep school and college instructors and they do so regularly.
