I write this on a 2007 iMac running OS X 10.10.2 and probably performing as well as it ever has.

Which version of OS X is it running?

The Safari problem is probably related to an Extension or plug-in of which the Flash Player is usually the prime suspect.

It is not clear what is slow to load - if just Safari it is probably related to the above potential problems.

Ensure everything is updated to the latest versions.

Open Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder) and click on the CPU% tab and see if anything is hogging a lot of CPU time - anything consistently over 25% may be a problem.
