Is slavery legal in the U.S.?
My friend from Washington state moved to Oklahoma and married a guy at the courthouse four years ago. Now he says she isn't his wife, but his slave. She can't even prove they were married because he has kept the paperwork to himself. she has no money to move out, and he has given her two months to get out. Also everything she has bought with her Soc. Sec. disability money he acts like he now owns. What are her legal options?
He says he bought her.

Yes , slavery is legal in 11 of the mid-western states and a couple in the south .

If they were legally married, there's documentation in the county in which they were married. All she has to do is file for divorce and the lawyer will take care of the rest.
