Atheists: have you ever been open to the idea of a God? If not, what is the purpose we have here on earth in your perspective?
Before yall blow me up with tens of answers showing negativity towards God and memes mocking Christians let's be real. No debate and no pointing fingers on who's hating who. I just truly wanna know what it's like believing that there's nothing after death and once this planet is destroyed there will be no more remembrance of the human life, that it will die off with the planet and be lost in space and darkness. That everything we have thought of, loved, and will do for the rest of our lives really was worth nothing and was in vain in a scale of a time that surpasses the remaining time earth will be suitable for life. That one day love, God, pizza, and yahoo answers will be lost ideas that might of as well never happened. What is the purpose of life with no eternity, why even have philosophy if eternal life is not real? Also how can you believe our actions mean nothing in the end, yet you believe we came from nothingness?

Why does there HAVE to be a purpose? There isn't. The question doesn't make any sense. It's like asking what's the purpose of the color blue, or what's the purpose of a mountain. A scientist can tell you how the mountain came into existence, but he can't tell you its purpose, because it doesn't have one, it just exists. It's exactly the same with us, a scientist can explain evolution and how we came into existence, but that's it, there's no higher purpose.
You should look at life from a different perspective. Appreciate the luck you have to be alive and be able to admire the beauty of life and the universe that we live in. The odds of you being alive at this very moment are so damn unlikely, and yet, here you are.
Make the most of your small amount of time you get. You give your own life meaning.

Most Atheists were actually raised in a religion, but had too many questions which led them to conclude there is no God.
BTW, you do realize there are other religions besides Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, right? For instance, Buddhists believe life is suffering, and the point is to become enlightened so that you return to nothingness, instead of coming back here for another round.
And why do you need the idea of god in order to give your life purpose? Isn't it enough to just work everyday to make the planet a better place for your loved ones? And as for eternity, we already live forever...in the hearts and minds of our loved ones. That doesn't require religion.

If not, what is the purpose we have here on earth in your perspective?
- To live and propagate and hopefully leave the earth a better place than I found it.
I just truly wanna know what it's like believing that there's nothing after death
- You focus on death and the after life, we focus on THIS life. You waste your time here, we don't. If you are right WE WILL ALL life in an after life. but if there is no afterlife then you have wasted the ONLY life that has been proven.
once this planet is destroyed there will be no more remembrance of the human life,
- And if you are on some cloud playing your harp, what are you going to care about some dirt ball and what makes you think you will have any way to effect that dirt ball.
That everything we have thought of, loved, and will do for the rest of our lives really was worth nothing and was in vain
- If I do something worth while in this life then it was not in vain. If you do nothing here and then in your after life, do nothing since there will be nothing to do, ALL of your lives will be in vain.
What is the purpose of life with no eternity,
LIFE, very simple, LIFE. If you ignore this one what purpose is your next one since NOTHING will ever happen FOR ETERNITY.
why even have philosophy if eternal life is not real?
- We don't have a philosophy, we LIVE. You contemplate what "might" exist and waste the only life you know exists. We don't.
Also how can you believe our actions mean nothing in the end,
- Your actions, since you have none, are meaningless. So you kiss an imaginary ecclesiastical a$$ and think yourself significant, but ACCOMPLISH nothing.
yet you believe we came from nothingness?
- SO? I have accomplished quite a bit, all you have done is hate people for not kissing the same ecclesiastical a$$ that you do. Is that accomplishing anything? You "believe" you are doing some good in "saving" other people, but IT IS THEIR LIFE, not yours, do do with what they want. Keep your imaginary fantasies to yourself and save your own a$$, but leave mine alone. I will make MY decisions for ME, not for you.

Sounds like you believe because you're too arrogant to accept that you're just another individual in just another animal species on an obscure planet far from the center of the universe. Is your religion really nothing more than making you feel more important in the grand scheme of things?
As for whether life has value if it doesn't last for eternity, do you refuse to eat great meals on the grounds that the food is gone in an hour? Do you refuse to go on fun trips because you have to go home? Do you think something can't possibly have value if it doesn't last for eternity?

There is no point or meaning except that which we select.
A meaning or purpose for all mankind implies that there is a controlling being with an agenda. There is no evidence for that.
We are here for the same reason that a lion, a moth or a tree is here - life.
Life is a genetic replication process and like a storm or a fire, continues as long as conditions allow.

Sure. I used to be a very devout Lutheran. I stopped believing when I could no longer believe in the myths. There are scientific explanations for many of our questions about how we got here. As to what are we here for, it's simple. We are products of evolution via natural selection, and the reason we are here is to reproduce so our species will continue.
In a more philosophical sense, we are here, in my opinion, to live and experience life just as we set our minds to. I am here, for me, to be my all, to experience that which I choose to experience, and to do all these things while I am alive.
All things will eventually be destroyed in this solar system when our star dies, but this is a natural event. You look on it as terrible. Is death terrible? For the person and the family, yes, but isn't it necessary and natural?
All of the ways of the Universe unfold as they should, and if you look at is as if there is nothing to live for now since it will all go away someday, you are missing the point. Live NOW, live your WHOLE life, with gusto and joy. This is the dance of life and you have been invited to dance. Are you going to sit it out just because the dance will end?
Think about it.

I am not as open as I was the first 28 years as I was a christian but sure with evidence I could be persuaded. Meaning of life is what you make and I think you know that already, Some people want nothing more than money some want nothing more than to have a healthy family and some just wanna holler "jihad" before they blow themselves up for their imaginary friend.

I was a Christian for almost 30 years. And that's not counting my years before I was old enough to have any beliefs about God.
Whenever I mock Christians, I'm only mocking the illogical Christians who think that everyone needs to believe in their brand of dogma or else be damned. The Christians who think it's possible for a Muslim or a Hindu or even an atheist (gasp!) to get into heaven? The Christians who don't try to legislate against gays? The Christians who don't frighten children with threats of damnation to get them to fall in line? I'm okay with those guys.
You misinterpret atheism if you think it designates everything as necessarily meaningless. We create our own meaning. And in doing so, we allow ourselves and our lives (and deaths) more dignity than dogmatic Christianity ever thought about bestowing upon our lives.

Why is it that you can't seem to do that which even the lowest animal does, find a purpose in life and need Atheists to give you instructions to do such! Are you that lame!

If a person is open to the idea of a God, they would not be Atheists, they would be Agnostic.
