Can I start a masters as an undergrad?
I'm currently an undergrad in genetics at iowa state university. I'm looking into getting a PhD after I finish my undergrad. Would it be possible for me to start on masters course work my junior or senior year in order to streamline the process, and allow me to finish a masters in a shorter amount of time, or do I have to wait to start my masters? I'm also looking at it, and it say that a masters is only 30 credits, when I was always under the impression that masters were more in the 60 credit area. I may just be misreading the requirements.

I have a Master's, and no you cannot start a master's program without having a Bachelor's first because you have to get accepted in to grad school to begin with-- and having a Bachelor's degree is a requirement for acceptance.

You'll need a bachelor's before you can start a master's degree program. Master's and doctoral degrees are for grad students ONLY.

It is very possible that the masters program is around 30 credits. My masters program in special education was 39 credits.

Some master's degrees are only one year. The 30 credit thing is correct.
At my college, I believe only senior standing could take masters level classes and it was only (i think) 6 units at the most. You need to check with your school what they offer

Usually not as you have to apply to get into a masters program, and you cant do that until you graduate; however sometimes you can apply to a PhD without a masters--the MS and the PhD are combined as one process. The thesis is what extends the process, not the units, mine took an additional 1.5 years to gather data, rewrite it, present it etc.

No, a masters course requires you to have completed a degree first. If you don't meet the entry requirements, you can't start the course.
