You have $909. So first since every 3rd wedge is $4 u multiply that by 3 because 9 divided by 3 is 3. Then you subtract 16 from 909. That is $897 left so now you divide that by 6 and you get $149.50.

I find it helpful to draw my answer: Create 9 empty boxes to represent the nine widgets bought. In every third box write in $4 since your can get two for an unknown price and a third for $4. That means you know you spent $12 for three of the widgets ($4 x 3). Subtract that from the total you spent ($909 - $12) to find out what you spent for the remaining six. That the answer you get and divide that by 6 to find out how much each of the other widgets cost.

If you bought a total of 9, then 3 of the nine will cost only $4
Therefore you bought 6 at the regular price
6w = 909 - 3(4)
6w = 897
w = 897/6
w = $149.50 is the reg price

i got 149.50 because there are 9 widgets which means you would have 3 wedges. i subtracted 4 from 909 three times and then divided that number by 6( the number of widgets left.

.
assume 9 widgets bought, 3 at discount price, 6 at regular price
6r +3d = 909
d = 4 since this is the discount price
6r +12 = 909
6r = 897
r = 149.5
regular price: $149.50
