Probably freeze or look where the professor's anger was being directed. If a college professor throws a book across their classroom then something has obviously pissed them off.

    Duck.

Context is critical. Professors do all kinds of "crazy" things for many different reasons. It could be a physics demonstration, to kill a bug on the wall, punctuate a point, or wake up a sleeping student.

Without context it's hard to say. There are times it would be a part of the lecture. Mostly I would wait for the person who triggered the event to walk out of class. I would definitely consider having a drop form in my hand the next course meeting.

    Insufficient information...

If it was a physics professor talking about trajectory or the affects of air resistance, it is merely the demonstration of a scientific concept which would make the lecture more memorable..

Raise my eyebrows at the time.

Much would depend on context. If the professor were angry but not aiming at anyone, I wouldn't report it to the Chair. No point. If he were angry at someone and just narrowly missed hitting him or her (accidentally or on purpose), I would report it.

It is hard to consider any instance where this is professional behavior. I'd speak with the Department Chair about such behavior - the Chair needs to know.

If the book hits you, you can charge the professor with assault.

I woukl want to know why he /she did this - unless it was thrown at a student in which case I would report him to his department head.

If it was to emphasize his or her dislike of a book my trust in their academic honesty would definitely take a dive.

Mamawisdom, said: "Duck." She explained her reasons well Lili, and Prof Cochise, also added to the reasons that profs sometimes lose their tempers. Good luck.

It would be a good physics demonstration. You'd probably remember that lesson forever because of it.
