Is there a hero in the old testament 5hat was trusted by the people/community?

Besides what Gentile stated, King David was absolutely a hero. He was the one who killed the giant, Goliath, as recorded in 1 Samuel 17. Abraham was probably a hero and trusted, as he had at least 318 commando troops ready for battle. Don't forget Joseph, too, who delivered not only Egypt but his own extended family from the famine that occurred in his time.
