Do you agree with republicans that Obama should not appoint the next supreme court justice?

Obama should not make the decision to appoint the next supreme court justice. He should let the next republican president decide since he will only be in office 10 more months. I mean who does Obama think he is to make that decision the president or something?

Not at all. He has the right (and some would argue Constitutional duty) to submit a name, and then the Senate can decide whether to proceed or not.

This "the American people have the right to a say" nonsense from the GOP has to stop. The American people already do have their say because they elected Obama in the first place. Setting a precedent where the Supreme Court *has* to have a vacancy for a year any time there's an election is just stupid.

Sotomayor is proof that Obama can't be trusted with appointing Supreme Court justices. He appoints another one and we might as well just take the original copy of the Constitution out of the National Archive and throw it in a camp fire.

No, I do not agree. It's still a year from election. President and Congress have a job to do. They can't do nothing for a whole year just because it's an election year.

What's next? Congress should just fold up and take the rest of the year of because it's an election year?

Who does he think he is? Why the President of the United States of America. And as such it is his right to nominate a new supreme court judge (to be ratified by the Senate). Sorry if that offends you.

He certainly has the right to do so although for the last 40 years this has never been done in an election year; however, he will get a lot of pushback from the Republicans and if they stand their ground he'll be out of luck.

I love Cruz's statement that "the people" should choose the next SC justice." Er...that's not how it works you dingbat, and the people in fact elected President Obama in case you don't know that.

I do not think he should wait, I think he should take his time and really think about it. We do not need one that will rule by ideology and that Unfortunilty will be what Obama goes for. We need on that walks the middle of the line and will really make rulings on what is not only best for the country, but what is in line with the constitution.

Only if we want the country to last a little longer .....at least til I am gone.

Sounds selfish but I have not the power to save the country singlehandedly and the "people" dont seem inclined to do so.

He can nominate someone, if he wants to (and I suspect he will); but the Senate doesn't have to confirm them.

Nope. For one thing there won't be another regressive POTUS for decades.
