Control Group?

Can you please explain me the term 'control group'. I read it in my psychology assignment as they were asking "Was there a control group used in the study"

A control group is a group of people that were not effected by the experiment. Such as, if the experiment was trying to figure out if a persons answer to the question "do you want food or water" would change based on the circumstances, there would be a few different groups. One where all the people had been waiting in line to buy hotdogs, and another that would be asked right after they worked out. The third group would be just normal people on the street. The last group would be a control group, since they were not effected by a variable.
