Fostering a cat?
I work on call 24/7 365 and am away from home up to 36 hours at a time. Would that be something that could disqualify me from fostering a cat? I'm thinking about adopting one but have allergies and want to test it out to see if adoption is something I'd be interested in.

If you are wanting to foster.. maybe foster one that is scheduled to be euthanized .. that way like you said.. you would be saving it's life.. and it may not mind be alone as long as you leave it with enough food, water, toys and maybe leave the t,v on so it can hear peoples voices.
So many so called cat lovers would rather see the cat die than be put in minor inconvenient situations.. I don't get it ! We need more people willing to open their hearts and homes to these rescues.. but they are scaring them off! I have also volunteered for many shelters and have taken in literately hundreds of fosters in my life and I can tell you that a cat on death row is not going to have a issue being left alone in a warm comfy home..it may be better to take in 2 so that get along so they can keep each other company.. but your house is going to feel like a paradise to a shelter cat.. Your heart is in a great place.. Dont let people like meow run you off.. I know her type.. I don't consider her a true cat lover.

Fostering isn't renting cats it's CARING for a cat to HELP a shelter.
NO shelter is going to just let you borrow a cat. You'd have to volunteer to be a foster, go through orientation and IF approved be given a cat that will NOT be adopted by you.
Stop thinking so selfishly. What cat would want to be alone 36 hours at a time constantly??
