  • Fostering a cat?

I work on call 24/7 365 and am away from home up to 36 hours at a time. Would that be something that could disqualify me from fostering a cat? I'm thinking about adopting one but have allergies and want to test it out to see if adoption is something I'd be interested in.

  • Are cats good for busy people?

I work away from home for about a day and a half at a time, so the cat would be alone quite regularly. Is a cat a good pet for someone like me? I would use automatic feeders for food and have lots of stuff to keep it entertained.

  • working for CN rail vs CP?

I'm finishing up a railway conductor course at the moment, and I've been lucky enough to get a job offer from both companies. Has anyone ever worked for either of these companies? Or know someone that has? Any info is appreciated

  • Advise on cover letter contents?

Do you think this is a good cover letter, any recommendations or things I should change? This is just the contents, obviously I left out addresses and stuff.

    Dear Hiring Manager

I am writing this letter to express my interest in obtaining a position as a railway conductor. I am currently enrolled in the railway conductor program at BCIT, and am looking forward to putting the skills I’ve learned to good use.

I have enclosed my resume, which details my work history and education. I expect that several of my strengths will be quite transferable, such as my experience working with heavy equipment while employed as a ramp agent at the Terrace airport. And excellent customer service skills adhering to Safeway’s ‘superior customer service’ policy. In addition, I am motivated and enthusiastic, and would appreciate the opportunity to contribute to your company’s success.

I look forward to meeting with you to discuss the prospects of working for your company. Thank you for taking the time to consider me.

  • Is there something wrong with me?

Im not good at expressing my thoughts and feelings, but here it goes. At least a few times a week I have these little bouts of feeling super down on myself, It usually lasts anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days, and it's usually triggered by either something I did, or something someone's said to me. I get really irritable and have all these self degrading thoughts in my head about how stupid or inferior I am, and once the feeling starts, I usually have a hard time snapping out of it.

I also have a hard time being myself around people, Im always usually the quiet boring one with not much to say, and it definitely bugs me. I always censor myself and think before I speak, but doing so makes me very bland and uninteresting, therefore I find it very difficult to make friends or bond with people in general.

I don't know if there's something wrong with me or what, but it's been going on for a long time. And idk if it's depression because the feelings are not consistent, I rarely feel overly happy, but the feelings do ease up when I distract myself and I can feel relatively normal, but just overall I have really low self esteem and don't really feel comfortable expressing myself to people.

  • How should I quit my job?

Right now I'm on a 7 week loa, and I've decided I don't want to go back to work. Me and my boss don't have a greatest relationship, so I want to leave in a way that doesn't further tarnish my reputation. Should I go back and put in 2 weeks notice, or just go in and tell him I won't be returning. Thanks in advance.

  • My boss hates me and wants me gone?

I've been working at this grocery store as a produce clerk for about 3 years now (since I was 15). It's my first job, and unfortunately me and my boss never really warmed up to each other. For the first couple years things went alright, I was in school and worked weekends while my boss worked weekdays so I only rarely saw him. But since I graduated last year and I'm now working 40 hours a week, the guy just really seems like he wants to get rid of me.

Yesterday I got called to the managers office and got reamed on for about 10 minutes about how I need to shape up and be more efficient, he tells me the only reason he's kept me around thus far is because he rarely saw me during school, but now that I'm basically full time he see's me as a weak link.

It really pisses me off because he really stressed how he wants to see me speed up and be more efficient, yet day to day he never really says anything about it to me. And It's almost as if he tries to avoid me most of the time and only talks to me when he has something he wants done.

Anyways what worries me the most about this is that if I were to try to get another job, guaranteed he'll give me a piss poor reference, I'm going to university next year, and my original plan was to quit this job and go travel for 6 months, but I decided to take an LOA instead, so I'll be sticking around town until September. I'm thinking my best bet would be to try and switch department's so I could use the store manager as a reference instead of produce, but honestly I really hate this job and just want out. What do you guys think?

  • Are Ford Ranger 2wd good trucks?

At the moment I own a 2000 toyota echo and I'm looking to upgrade it to something a little more manly for college next year, without going bankrupt on gas. And are the 2wd's good in icy conditions, because it gets pretty cold where I live

  • Is it safe to travel in Australia?

I realize Australia is in a state of emergency at the moment with all the flooding. I was planning on a backpacking trip there in May for a few months, and was wondering if it's still a good idea even if I were to avoid Queensland.

  • feeling overwhelmed about travel plans?

Well, last year I graduated high school and have been working full time trying to save up enough money to go travel around Australia on a working visa. And I'm at the point now where I've got more than enough money to go, but I'm having a hard time cutting the ropes and just doing it. I mean, I've never lived on my own before, and as bad as I want to get out of this little town start living, quitting my job, buying the plane ticket and the prospect of getting there, not knowing a soul and then having to set up a bank account, get a tax number and a job is really starting to overwhelm me.

Anyways, I guess I'd like to hear some advice because right now I feel really stuck, I'm not where I want to be and am having a hard time getting there.

  • Should I wait until after christmas to go travelling?

I just graduated HS and have been working the past 6 months saving enough money to go travel around Australia. Right now I'm really eager to leave, but Christmas is only a month away. Should I wait till after Christmas and New years and spend that time with the family, or take off and experience Christmas down under.
