What's the difference between C Med and an ASMC?
I will be PCSing and I could very well be put in the BSB; I am a Medic and now SGT. I've heard so many horror stories about the BSB, such as it being called the Bull$hit Battalion, but then again, my first unit was an Area Support Medical Company and the structure of that unit compared to C Med is identical. Now, I loved my time in the ASMC; a lot of it had to do with my leadership looking after soldiers and placing emphasis on family, and it was nice having a somewhat low Optempo. I just want to know if any of you Medics out there have been in both, and if so, what would you say are so distinctively different between the two?

I was never in a ASMC; I've never even heard of it before. But I was just ina C-Med. And yeah, Bullshiiit Battalion is right. We had an FTX every other month or so, which is fine, but for 80% of them, there completely no purpose for it and we had so many Bullshiit tasking from battalion that we couldn't train. Battalion does not understand that the garrison and field/combat missions are completely different, so when in the field, we need to actually train. Mechanics and admin and cooks do the same thing in garrison or the field. We don't.
Where exactly are you going to?

My comments keep getting deleted for some reason, so I'll explain them here:
Living the Dream - I will be going to Schofield Barracks, HI and I am set to be assigned to a BCT with 25th ID. I could very well be put in a BSB or a combat arms unit again.
The ASMC is set up exactly like C-Med: You have HQ, Treatment and Evac platoons. Since I was Evac, most of my time was spent setting up FLAs for medical coverages for other unit's training exercises (airborne operations) or events around the installation. There was the occasional BS such as layouts and helping Treatment set-up and tear-down tents, but we pretty much did our own thing.
Unlike your experience with C-Med, we kept a relatively low optempo; then again our battalion had 4 ASMCs which were always on a training rotation (red, amber, green cycles) so you can guess how things worked out. In any case, we wouldn't have any more than 4 FTXs in a given year, and a lot of it had to do with us pulling medical coverage, which was nice for me personally. Our leadership also had a lot of autonomy in regards to medical training, so they would implement combat-related medical training during our field problems quite frequently; not to mention our weekly Sergeant's Time Training.
My time spent with an Area Support Medical Company was positive, and despite the typical Army BS that comes with it, or any unit for that matter, I long for the days that I can return to one lol.
