How close were Germany to a communist revolution in the period 1918-1919?

Update:

I was just wondering what everyone's opinions were. Do you think the German's were very close to experiencing a communist revolution or not close at all and why?

    Very.

The Spartacist Uprising of January 1919 was only stopped by use of the paramilitary Freikorps - formations that the government had no real control over.

Other Communist uprisings in Bavaria also needed military force to be suppressed.
