100% of your alimony payments go on your tax return if you are required to file a tax return. Alimony is added to your other income and taxed the same as wages. If you are in the 15% tax bracket and your alimony is $10,000, tax on the alimony is no more than $1,500.

As with any other income, the percentage depends on how much other income the person has, and can be 0, 10, 15, 25, or any other percentage from zero to almost 50, depending on how much other income the person has and where the person lives.

the one getting alimony pays taxes on however much it is in the total AGI
the one paying is able to reduce his income by the same amount

Whatever their income calls for. If the alimony was a million dollars, it would be in the upper brackets. If it was $20,000, and there was no other income, it would be very low.

That's determined by their TOTAL income, filing status, etc. Just as it is for anyone.
