Going under anesthesia with bad lungs?

My dad has a surgery coming up. I m worried because the doctor said that since he s had pneumonia a lot, his lungs are scarred. He said there s a chance of his breathing stopping because of the anesthesia and it will be very hard to get it going again. They changed the surgery from normal to risky but he is gonna have extra doctors. Should I be worried? With the extra doctors will everything be okay?

Any surgery can have complications, but it sounds like his doctor is going to be well prepared for any emergency. That is a very good thing. AND the doctor has been smart enough to warn you all of the possible problems. As hard as that is t think about, it really is less scary than the "surprise" from the OR. Try to keep a positive attitude, especially around your Dad. His mental state, and faith in his doctor, are important. Good luck to you all.

The extra doctors are there to monitor his vitals to make sure that he doesn't stop breathing. Your dad's surgeon must have determined that the benefits of this procedure outweigh the risks of it. So, trust his judgment. And worrying never makes a situation better.
