Yes, some cats masturbate. It's annoying, but not terribly uncommon. Sometimes they have an inanimate object that they prefer (like a pillow) and sometimes they get amorous when they are stroked. Sometimes they choose a particular person. My spouse came with a masturbating cat and I just kicked him (the cat..lol) off my lap when he did it. He drooled too (the cat, not the spouse). Boy am I glad that era is over...that cat lived to be 18 years old.

By the way, you don't have a "neutered tom" as there is no such thing. You have a "gib" or simply "a neuter".

Our 6 yr old neutered male does this. He also breeds our entire female when she's in heat. If your cat was neutered when an adult, he is more likely to exhibit sexual habits. Neutered as a young kitten, its rare for him to do this.

If you don't like the thrusting just gently push him away or otherwise discourage him when he does it and he will likely stop.

Animals don't have a sense of shame about sexual behavior, it's an instinct and it feels good to them. If you don't like it, just gently discourage it.

Both my female dogs have things they amorously "hump" - and from all appearances, they have orgasms. The bigger one has a couple "special" larger stuffed animals and the little one like my ugg boots. It only ever happens when we are home, alone, it doesn't hurt anything and they seem to enjoy it so I just ignore it.

Even a neutered cat (or dog) gets the 'urge' when they're happy.

Just sidetrack it by setting the cat down on the floor, don't shove him off.
