Is it right that the President Elect attends a church service on Inauguration day?
So I am following Trumps inauguration on the BBC and they have said he has left the guest house for a church service.
I thought the US was meant to have separation of church and state, I am surprised no groups have complained about this

Separation of church and state does not require that the President has to be an atheist. Probably the number of votes he would get would be pretty small if he was.
In any case, the USA does not have separation of church and state. What it DOES have, in the 1st Amendment to the constitution, is a ban on Congress making any church official and a guarantee of freedom of religion. Thus the country cannot have an Established Church as we do in England. But that's all it says. It doesn't prevent Congress having prayers before sessions, prayer in schools, or the President saying "so help me God" at the end of his oath.

The "separation of church, and state" means that the USA is different from England, in that the Church is not part of the government, as it was in England when the USA was being set up. Note, England only, not the whole UK, which is still the case today. In fact, all US Presidents have been Christian, and some have been fairly religious. The voters there expect this.

Most presidents do the God Bless America bit. Of course it doesn't square with the secular thing.
But that's America - full of contradictions. The Land of the Free with biggest prison population on the planet.
(and if ever you needed to invoke the help of any deity, real or imagined, it is having this guy as leader)
Lol @bioya90 what a horse'sass.

Who knows, but that isn't Sunday, the day we are commanded to gather and worship God.
PS Separation of church and state is NOT in the Constitution and they had church every Sunday in the White House for years and years.

Better hope he is not going to copy George W Bush who started FIVE wars in less than eight years stating each time that it was his "God Given Duty” and in 2001 even called it a Crusade!
Not his duty to the electors!
Not his duty to America!
Just his duty to keep slaughtering heathens for his god!
Thankfully Trump has said it will now be government for the people and not religion!

It could be considered right, but it means little, since such people are generally people of the world and hence the church service means nothing to them. They will probably go on being corrupt and evil.

It's just more grandstanding by the Orange Buffoon. There's nothing "right" about him to begin with.

Can't stop a guy privatly worshiping, its when he passes laws based on religion that it becomes a problem or if he uses his authority to lead a prayer

Try being the president without making overt religious gestures and see how far you get.

We also have freedom of religion, and I remind you he is not president yet, and even then, he may attend church.
