    Sid,

Please see my expanded Yahoo Best Answer in the comments. It will give you a good overview and context. You will find the answer longer than most here, but it still will take just 5 minutes to read.

I saw your comment, Sid. People in the military, right here on Yahoo, criticize these so-called bonuses and benefits. Here are some replies from one of those threads:

    "Eating crap food at 7.30am........12.30pm.......17.00pm"

"Getting little or no leave over Christmas"

    "Shitting in a plastic bag"

    "Eating rations cold"

"Lack of control over your schedule, location, and circumstances after you join the military."

"im in the military now, i am 40 years old,and have been diagnosed with heart disease, emphysema, and lung disease. the army tells me,its not bad," you will be ok" PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"the healthcare aint what they let on for it to be! i used to think it was the best, then i joined like an idiot and found out that most of the time they try to prove you arent sick, and if they find you are,its motrin and drink water!"

"dont let them b.s you with talk about a big sign on bonus, you dont get it til you get to your first duty station, and then you only get 10,000 (before taxes) up front, the rest is then taxed and spread out over the length of your contract!!!! "

"When you sign on that dotted line, the military then owns you, literally. They tell you what to do, and you HAVE to do it."
