GTA 5 ok for 11 y old boy?

Someone gave me GTA 5 for my son. He is 11. I am not sure it is the right game. He says that many of his friends have it an play with it...anyone can advise? If it is ok to let him play, what should the limits be? Once a week for 30 min or just occasionally or can i be more flexible or should I just park the game for when hes older? ta xx

Look up some GTA V game play on YT and decide if you want your kid to see that.

The game is a satirical representation on modern American life. They have ads of how it's ok for men to have many women; how women should be submissive; gun ads that obviously are meant to make fun of America's love for guns, etc... They do this through in-game radio ads, bill board ads, money is a big part of the game and it's glamorized as being "king". Most kids won't really understand them even though it's somewhat of an integral part of the game.

I have a 12 year old brother and I personally wouldn't let him play it; not necessarily because of the violence, but because of the heavy sexual content. There's a mission where one of the main characters is having intercourse with another person. You don't see any body parts, but it's very obvious as to what they're doing. Should an 11 year old see that? Some missions take part in a strip club, while in others, you have to film people having sex and a rather graphic dialog. You can kill people indiscriminately. Same for cats, dogs, deer, cows, birds, pigs, etc... You can hear when the people scream out in pain. There are quite a few racial stereotypes in the game as it is based in Los Santos, which is based in Los Angeles and it's surrounding areas.

The game has it's swearing content dialed up past 11, so almost every line of dialogue has some sort of expletive. Trevor Phillips is the worst of them.....

I've been playing violent video games for years since I was around 4-5 and it hasn't affected me in the slightest, BUT, not all kids are equal. My brother has always been more impulsive and 'prone' to act out what he sees in the media (not anymore, but as a younger kid, it was more likely)

GTA V is a very well made game that is NOT intended for kids. Although a lot of the content may fly over his head, there's some content that could maybe affect him? You know your kid better than anyone of us here.

But I strongly urge you to look up a couple of gameplay videos to see if you'd be ok with your kid playing them.

gta has got a pretty bad rep but it's such a good franchise if he can handle the game sure i played it when i was 14 and i enjoyed it as in it didn't make me angry or violent! at 11 your at the stage when people at school are always talking about games i wasant allowed to play it at 12 when it came out and all my mates did and i felt pretty dam left out so just keep that in mind but all in all i think it's a awesome game so open i got it thinking it was gunna be a blood fest and i was gunna kill everyone i ended up just modding cars and such!! but it's all up to you do you think he's old enough to hear the f*ck at least 1000 times through the story and some pretty dodgy murders then go for it but i think maybe wait till his 13 thanks for reading this essay😂😂👌

It depends on the child, if they are mature and know what is happening is wrong and vulgar then let them play it (unless they show signs of personality changes)

That depends on his maturity leve. Some younger children can handle such games, where others cannot.

Well, I was once 9 playing GTA 3. I turned out fine. Just know its a very vulgar game and the only thing missing is nudity and drug use, However at times it is very clear what they are doing. I'm sure some person for some reason made a mod for what ever other sick things people can think of.

Unless your kid suffers from a mental retardation, Games and TV wont affect them. My generation and the one before that proves it as we all grew up playing violent and graphic video games. We are all contributing to society just fine and do not want to murder everyone. The worst that will happen is you'll get a call from the school because your son repeated something from the game. By repeated I mean verbally not physically.

I don't believe it is desensitizing anyone either, If someone gets run over in GTA I laugh, If someone gets run over in real life I run over to see what I can do and call 911.

Games can do good too even in the worst of them like GTA. In the game you can dial 911, 10 of 10 times this results in the player engaging the police in a shoot out. However, It is a constant reminder that 911 is an actual thing, That when dialed police come to help.

There has never once been a time in my life where I was upset and said to myself. "I can kill in the game so I can kill in real life". These people you see, Are insane and do not need a game to help them kill.

No! GTA games are not appropriate for anyone under the age of 17. Of all the games out there, GTA is more likely to influence kids because the things you can do are more realistic than the contents of others games. A kid might think it's funny to go whack someone in the head with a crowbar and then steal their car in the game. And if they are exposed to this element long enough, they will be more likely to do that to someone in real life.

Do not let your child play GTA. It's rated M for Mature (ages 17+) for a reason.
