SHOULD RUST ON TRUCK FRAME BE TACKLED IMMEDITELY EVEN IF TRUCK IS PARKED UNSED IN AN ENCLOSED GARAGE?

Good day

I am writing from Norway, I have a 2008 Toyota sequoia in Ghana, West Africa. I am told there are signs of rust on the frame. The truck is parked in my garage and has not been used since August last year. It is on jack stands with new oil in it. I have it started periodically – every 6months.

Truck will not be not be driven out, except periodic starting, before January 2019 when I will be in Ghana for field work. Should I let them treat it with anti-rust now or it will not hurt if I leave the rust for now and then treat it myself in January 2019?

If not treated it will get worse due to water vapour in the air.

Don't worry about the rust. Worry about the periodic starting. There are few things worse for a vehicle than starting it without driving it around long enough to get it good and hot. All you're doing is generating moisture and acids in the engine and exhaust without getting it hot enough to burn them off.
