Why do I feel this way? And how did I get into this mess? Is this a date?

Okay, so my father s best friend from high school called my father and asked if I would go to prom with his son. I m a sophomore and love to go to dances, but at the time I wasn t sure if I should since I have never spoken to his son. I met my prom date yesterday and it was very awkward but went well under the circumstances. Now, after everything, I kind of feel disgusted, because at first I believe I was in shock. How do I overcome this feeling, and is this a date, I m not sure I want it to be one.

Just so you know, he goes to a different school then I do, I barely know him, and he keeps texting me, trying to get to know me. I have never been on a date before either and he's taking me to an expensive restaurant before the prom. I am not allowed to go to prom yet.

It's not a date in that the two of you didn't initiate it. It's your parents' attempts to include you in the prom so neither off you will feel left out. Don't waste time and energy trying to figure out whether either or both of you would have found dates on your own. Maybe, maybe not. The point is, by going together you will both have a positive experience--with each other? Remains to be seen. You're under no obligation to "like" each other romantically simply because you're attending prom together.  You are each others' escorts, not dates. But for the next prom, or dance, or social event of any kind, both of you will feel more experienced and more capable, and each of you will no doubt find dates of your own choice. Your parents are actually being amazingly thoughtful.
