Photo attached:A community swimming pool is in the shape of a trapezoid. The height of the trapezoid is twice as long as the shorter base and the longer base is twice as long as the height. The area of the pool is 3675 square feet. What is the length of the longer base? Round to the nearest foot.

(Hint: Use A=1/2h(b1+b2) )

Update:

According to the answer key its supposed to be 108ft but I just can't figure out how that answer was found

use the formula. Put in 3675 for A, 2x for h, 4x for b1, and x for b2. Solve for x, then find 4x for the answer.

The area of the trapezoid is given by the average of the top & bottom sides multiplied by the height between them so 2x * (5/2)/x = 3625 i.e. 5x^2 = 3625; divide by 5 and x^2 = 725 so x = rt725 = 26.6258.... and that gives the base as 4*26.6258... = 107.7... or 108 to the nearest foot
