After buying a home what are some typical services you hire?

the first thing I recommend doing after you go through closing & buy a new home are:

*patch holes in walls & fill any nail holes you don't want (sometimes you might find nails perfectly centered on walls so those would probably be good to keep for hanging your pictures)

*paint the walls the colors you want

*clean the carpets & floors and/or replace any flooring in bad condition or you think is ugly

*hire a local electrician to take a look at the breaker box.

*replace any light fixtures/ ceiling fans you dislike.

*replace any sink faucets you dislike

*get window curtains/blinds made/bought (I like the accordion style blinds with curtains also at most windows)

*if the house has ductwork (central air or Furnace ducts) have the ductwork vacuumed out by a company that specializes in it. get rid of them old dust bunnies and any pet hair/smoke dust that may be lingering in there

* if the house has a septic tank have it emptied/pumped

I recommend doing these things before you start moving furniture in (why have the furniture in your way)

I've never hired anyone except furniture movers. I wait until I've been in the new home for a while before deciding if anything needs doing, and then I'm more likely to do it myself than to hire someone
