Could someone born in the mid-1970s consider themselves a millennial and be correct?

Update:

By "millennial", I mean the generation, the one following X.

I consider Generation X to run from about 1966-1977, but I think depending on life experiences someone born as early as 1974 could be a millennial (and up to 1980 or so, Gen X)

Nope , you weren't born with a cell phone in your hand you are not a millennium. You may be Progressive Gen X but still gen ex. A few exceptions, if you invented or contributed to its invent , you get a by. If you were some one involved in the invention of the I-phone you are in.

But why does anyone really want to be a part of the i-Phoney generation?

No. They are a Generation X. The millennials were born later than the mid-1970's.

I don't think we had 'millenials' in the 1970s.

Millenials (Gen Y) were born between the mid 1980s to late 1990s or early 2000s. Someone born in the mid 1970s is definitely Gen X.

I think you would be more of a young Gen Xer if your in your 40's. You might consider yourself that way though if you hang with a younger crowd of people.

Most don't actually care and they don't categorize themselves this way for any reason. Why?
