Can thrombocytopenia come and go?

A few years back I had gone to the doctor because of easy bruising. I hit my arm on a counter which caused a baseball sized bruise. That causes me to go to the doctor to make sure it wasn't anything seriously or deadly. I had low blood platelets from nothing serious. It just ranked for unknown reasons. After time it went back to normal and my platelet counts came back as normal. Recently I started getting these little bruises again. One on my bottom leg that has been there since December. One on my arm. Can low blood platelets come and go from time to time?
