Jury Duty Summons x2?

It isn't entrapment. If you were scheduled on same day, THEN you contact the courts and work it out. IF you happened to be scheduled on same day, which is incredibly unlikely.

Over the years have been called for (only) county juries, but have never been called for Federal duty, thus have attached a site that explains the process.

In my state (Indiana) when served, then depending on the cases, criminal and civil to be heard that week they may call anywhere from 500 to 1,000 to show up on the (1st) day and you are on jury duty for the entire week, which is from Monday to Friday

You never know which type of case you (might) get on jury duty till they explain the case on the 1st day if it is a criminal or civil till the judge explains the charges/reasons for the case.

Now each of us is (assigned) a number from 1 to 1000 on our jury summons. If you are lucky you have a higher number, thus more likely not to be called to be on the jury. They start with the 1st 12, then with (each) number they excuse them or they are assigned to the jury, till they have the number they need for (each) case. Once they have the (needed) jurors and alternates, then everyone else is excused to go home, which if I remember took on average of 4 hours.

Then Monday night and the next 4 days to Thursday night on the summons will have a phone number that you call from 5Pm to ? The phone number is an automatic answer that will state that if your number is (less) than 256, then you need to show up on Tuesday again and if your number is 257 or (higher) then you are excused on Tuesday. So wash/repeat each night to see if you are excused or not based on your assigned number.

But once you are served, then you are (exempt) for an entire year from that date.

So you have 2 options. You can call (each) court and ask to talk to the court clerk who handles jury selection and explain that you are scheduled to appear in (both) courts the same day. They will probably ask to verify by your name and assigned number as an example, so they can note why you won’t appear that day in (either) court.

Option 2 would be to send a copy to both courts of the summons to have on record, but may not have enough time to send in time. Either way, I would make an extra copy for yourself in case you give one to the court and later get notice you failed to appear, so would still have an (extra) copy just in case.

My guess is that they will want you for the county court since it is only 1 week, thus with the Federal, they can call you later at (any) time in the next year.

contact BOTH judges and they will determine that ONE of them will grant you a DELAY to be called until the other jury service is complete. Provide copies of BOTH jury summonses to BOTH judges to resolve the conflict.

go in person to the clerk of court's office, jury department, with both summons. probably the county court clerk will give you two year's exemption

You'll have to serve both. One will have to be postponed. I suggest you call the freaking court house and ask how you need to proceed.

its not your fault if you got two of them, just talk to them about it and tell them what happened

At least one (maybe both) should give you an option to reschedule

When I was summoned for jury duty, the federal court allowed me to request a one-time delay. Read the form and see if either the county or federal will allow that.

Suggestion: get the app Shazam on your phone and then use it the next time you hear the song.

Contact BOTH courts and TALK to someone about BOTH summons. I GUARANTEE that one of them has dealt with this before and can resolve the issue.
