Kelly Marie Tran, abused to the point of deleting her social media?

Why? I can understand not liking her performance or even her role in the film. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I myself didn't really like the character but I did like her performance. What I don't understand is hating on her so much that you heap abuse on her? She was hired for a job and did the job to the best of her ability.

Personally, I liked the character of Rose Tico and Tran's portrayal of her.

Because it perfectly served an important function in the film, just like the character of Finn (FN-2187) does.

Simply put, characters like Luke Skywalker in A New Hope & Finn and Rose in The Last Jedi enabled audiences to live vicariously through them.

Because those characters are all living the hero-nerd dream onscreen.

The dream of every dumpy, dorky outsider who's ever fantasized about being somehow magically being accepted by their heroes as an important equal, sharing in their heroes' adventures; and themselves transforming into brave, respected heroes too as a result.

It's the same old dream Humanity's had since time began, just repackaged in a sci-fi version.

What Star Wars fan wouldn't want to man a turret on the Millennium Falcon alongside Han, Luke and the gang?

Or man the guns in a stolen New Order Tie fighter with Poe Dameron in the pilot's seat?

-If some fans didn't like seeing their escapist fantasies reflected in Tran or her performance, that's their tough luck.

It's just one of the many reasons fail troll losers thankfully aren't in charge of movie studio casting departments.

They don't like reality where non-Whites are strong and powerful, too. They don't live movies that portray that either.

That's just mental. Literally. Because a bunch of nuts driving Tran off social media won't magically cure them of their hate.

Those kinds of personal problems can only be resolved through treatment by qualified mental healthcare providers.

Which is easier said than done when genuinely crazy people like that are too nuts to know they need help to get any.

She like many women, did the right thing. Prominent women get abused on social media if they don't appear to act a certain way. It's a form of control on the part of the trolls.

Yeah I don't get it either, but it's not that unusual with a crazy fanbase like this. I know Daisy Ridley went off of social media for a while after TFA.

If all you saw posted on your feed was a bunch cr@p from trolls and haters, why would you bother having an account anymore? Why put up with that sort of abuse? So she chose to just walk away.

She was targeted by white supremacists and MRAs, who believe that all movies should be about heroic white men. She's not their only victim. Look at the abuse heaped on Leslie Jones. Women, especially those who are not white, are their top targets.

Fandom can be cruel if a product doesn't meet expectations. This is not the first time this has happened to Star Wars.

Actor Jake Lloyd (who played young Anakin) was bullied after the release of The Phantom Menace. It was reported he destroyed most of his Star Wars memorabilia.
