How can I spend time with my dad without spending too much money?

So every other weekend I stay at my dad's house for 3 days until I go back to my mom's house. His place is a small apartment with 2 rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. My dad doesn't have a lot of money because he's under disability due to his kidney illness and can barely work.

So without money, there's nothing we can do TOGETHER except watch TV and talk sometimes.

So now that you understand my situation, I was wondering if there's ANYWAY for us to spend time together besides watching TV and without spending money (well at the very least, not TOO MUCH money).

    Play cards.

    Read to him.

Bring your laptop along and look at funny video's together.

Ask him about his life .. things that happened before you were born. Ask him about past joys and past sorrows. Ask him about what wisdom he has gained.

Ask him how he feels about _________ (insert any political or sociological news coverage you have recently seen).

Money is not what makes quality time.

Caring is what makes quality time.

It also helps if both people have a modicum of intelligence.

You could read, write, create art, create a business, listen to him tell stories, tell him stories, go to church with him (some churches will pick you up), ask for his life wisdom about various future goals you have, cook with him or for him (if you are old enough or he is okay with that), plan meals, enjoy what already is available. You might need to talk with his home health aide (if he has one) about going for walks and such. He likely has some limits on when this can happen, but would probably benefit.
