Wouldn't we expect Mary and Joseph..?

to be highly involved with sharing their sons's holy status? Instead, we don't hear anything mentioned about Mary and Joseph spreading the good news all his life, and Jesus leaves town to go do the miracles.. if Mary and Joseph knew he was so holy and special, wouldn't they be exclaiming that and following him their entire lives?

    Yes and No!

Yes if you solely use human logic and exclude God

No, if you accept that in all things God is in control...

..note for c30years Jesus Himself didn't declare His Holiness because it was "not His time"....

..so if you're going to claim that Mary and Joseph should have done differently based on human logic, you have to extend this to Christ and everyone..... and to do so means you think human logic is better than God's!

In the Qur'an, Mary is mentioned more times than Jesus! He's ALWAYS referred to as 'Isa ibn Maryam' - Jesus son of Mary. Mary is mentioned 31 times whereas Jesus is mentioned 28 times.

“Godless Goddess”, here are some points for developing Christian believers to prayerfully consider regarding the accountability, faithfulness, and service as holy prophets that was demonstrated by Mary and Joseph as the earthly caretakers of Jesus Christ:

    1. An overabundance of divine presence, foreknowledge, sacred mystery, and revelation to the sacred pair would have blemished the presentation of authentic humanity that the Word was sent to demonstrate on the earth. In addition to sharing limitations through the frameworks of time and space, they all were subject to the finite elements of flesh such as aging, fatigue, lack of information, physical pain, and the inheritance of mortality as the lawful consequence from the sin of the first pair, Adam. Matthew 20: 22-23, King James Version (KJV): 22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. 23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

    2. Guiding, nourishing and protecting the holy child, the sacred pair endured the same fear, hardship, mental anguish, and uncertainties that came upon him, yet, did not operate having the same anointing, sacred opportunities, eternal purpose, and focused possibilities. Childbearing, parenting, and fulfillment of covenant duty are contrasted against redemption, salvation, and provision of a new testament in his blood. Luke 2: 34-38, KJV: 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

There is far more that should be said, correctly examined, and spiritually apprehended. (For example, 3. Chosen to be a sanctified vessel for divinity using flesh and human form (we say, Incarnation), the mother of Jesus, Mary, would demonstrate release from the law through death by having new life as the widow of Joseph. Mary also would be an eyewitness to the death of Jesus on the cross; be among the first to acknowledge and proclaim the resurrection of Christ; and, with the brothers and sisters of Jesus, be among those disciples and apostles who tarried together in the upper room waiting to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit that were poured out on the day of Pentecost. Continuing as a vessel for the Godhead, Mary was among the first to become a “new creation” and serve also as a vessel for the Holy Spirit. Acts 2: 16-21, KJV: 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come: 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.) Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful. Be it unto you according to your faith.

    1) Wouldn't we expect Mary and Joseph..?

    Edit

to be highly involved with sharing their sons's holy status?

Quite frankly: I don't know what that means.

How could they possibly share their son's holy status?

How could they be involved - "highly" or otherwise - in doing so?

    2) Instead, we don't hear anything mentioned about Mary and Joseph spreading the good news all his life

    As the Bible teaches

Jesus did not begin his ministry until he was about thirty years old.

Do you expect that Mary and Joseph - we can imagine them about fifty years old - should have been his apostles, wandering from town to town to spread the word?

But..we DO see in the Bible that Mary was one of his followers. So: your idea is not far-fetched. You just have the timing wrong.

If you want more stories of Mary and Joseph, I can recommend the early Christian Gospel of the Nativity of Christ as a source.

It's not regarded as canonical by any Christian church, so far as I know--although it was a source of stories cited by Mohammed in the Qur'an. It reads much like the old comic books about George and Martha Kent raising the foundling infant who became Superman.

During their time in Egypt, Mary starts saving Jesus' bath water and giving it out to cure diseases. It works fine for physical ailments, but mental disorders tend to require application of his discarded swaddling cloths.

After they settled in Nazareth, the boy Jesus performs more miracles, including one well-known from the Qur'an: he carves birds out of wood and they come to life.

But my personal favorite is the time a snake bit one of his friends, and Jesus ordered the snake to go back, bite him again, and this time suck out all the poison it had injected with the first bite. Not sure how the friend felt about that procedure, but it's a pretty good lampoon of some teachers!

There's also the time Mary and Joseph grounded Jesus--a good resource if you're looking for a scriptural basis for grounding your own kids.

No because the God of Abraham instructed Mary and Joseph to keep the divinity of Jesus a secret to His siblings and the rest of the local community until the time was right for this information to be revealed to everyone else.

It really comes down to what God wanted them to do.

Joseph understood that caring for his family's spiritual needs was paramount. So he spent time teaching his children about Jehovah God and His laws. He and Mary regularly took them to the synagogue, where the Law was read aloud and explained. Joseph also took his family to religious festivals in Jerusalem. Joseph was a spiritual man who appreciated the privilege of becoming the adoptive father of Jesus despite the fact that Mary's firstborn would not be his own. Joseph and Mary knew actually what their roles were to be in Jesus life, and they were obedient to God in the privileges that they were given.

You are assuming that is what Jesus would have wanted them to do. But what if he had told them that he did not want them to push themselves forward and testify about him? That would fit well, because there are a lot of places where Jesus told people not to go shouting about some sign or miracle he had just worked, but to keep quiet (eg Matt 17:9 "As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, ‘Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead'.")

In any case, it is traditionally thought that Joseph had died before Jesus began his ministry, because he appears in none of the gospel stories after the finding in the temple, which took place when Jesus was aged 12.

    No, that idea is bizarre.

No one really knew who Jesus was until the resurrection. As far as His followers (including His parents) Jesus was a holy man, a rabbi, who astonished and came in the name of the Lord. The realization that He IS the Lord came later.
