Should I be worried?

I cut my finger somewhere earlier and I'm not sure whether it was on rusty metal or if it was from when i slipped on ice. The skin around the cut feels swollen and hardened, but there's no discoloration other than the cut itself. Do I have tetanus? Should I be worried? it's around 30 degrees outside so originally I thought the blood froze underneath the skin but I'm warm again and its still rough and swollen. Help!

When was your last tetanus vaccine? If you don't know, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor now about getting one. You do NOT want to get tetanus. Especially not knowing what your finger was cut with, it's a good idea to talk to a doctor about what to do.

A picture would help, but that sounds like it might just be inflammation from the cold and the cut. If you're concerned, you should contact your physician and ask if you need to renew your tetanus vaccine.

However, if this cut is less than several days old then it's not tetanus, because the incubation period of tetanus is about 7-10 days.

Did you let it bleed out a bit? If so it should be fine.
