Ringing in ears whenever it’s too quiet and/or silent?

I’ve lived my whole life, for as long as I can remember, hearing a ringing in my ears whenever it’s silent, or too quiet, and it’s just now come to my attention that this might not be normal. It’s like a high pitched ringing noise.

If you’ve seen that one scene in the hunger games where Katniss blows up the careers supplies and her ear’s ringing, it sounds like that. Might be tinnitus, not sure.

I have had the same problem for years. Just recently noticed when I ran out of one of my medications that it became extreme. After refilling that medication it went away. My point being could possibly be medicated related. If that applies hope it helps

If it's there 25 hours a day, 8 days a week, 366 days a year, it's Tinnitus. I've had it since some 25 years ago due to loudness of bands I was paying bass in, and was not even hard rock, metal, or anything. You can go to the ATA, American Tinnitus Assoc.com..But still no cure yet. Know this : The ringing is not in the ears. It's in the brain. Hearing aids do, though, help to put it on the back burner...M

However, my husband has it, and he's found that a white noise machine is helpful.

As you suggest, it may be tinnitus. Sometimes ringing in the ears is brought on by high blood pressure. So get your blood pressure checked if you have not already done so!

It's a phenomenon said to be experienced by 4-5 percent of people in the world. It may be psychological, physiological or could be, as is speculated, to be a sort of background noise we have in our cities. The merged indistinguishable him of our civilization. I too have it, I sometimes feel it, sometimes don't. Sometimes once a day, sometimes once a week, sometimes after a few months,
