Should we make open carry easier to obtain to stop gun violence?
Studies show criminals are far less likely to commit crime if they know an armed citizen is nearby. I mean if a cops standing outside a store no one's going to rob it! Same holds if a guys standing outside a store and he's open carrying a pistol for all the see. No one's going to mess with him or anyone with in a mile radius of him unless they want to die
What do you think?

Open carry is easier in Texas. It didn't stop the violence.
Criminals who do commit a crime are more likely to use violence in the crime if an armed citizen is nearby. If there are no armed citizens, then the criminal just steals and leaves. But if there is an armed citizen, then the criminal has to use violence to avoid being killed.

There is no study which shows that.
Armed self defense is the mantra of gun nut organizations like the NRA, which push for criminals to have as many guns as possible. In order to keep gun company profits up they need to keep guns flowing, so they can't argue for gun control, even sensible measures. So instead they argue for more guns, the idea being that people can use them to defend themselves.
This, to put it politely, is nonsense. IIRC there have only been two cases in the last thirty years where an armed civilian has stopped a mass shooter. We live in the mostly heavily armed civilian population on earth. If armed self defense worked then we'd also be the safest country on earth. Instead we have a murder rate which approaches third world levels. The reality is that even in heavily armed states like Texas, where the recent shooting in El Paso claimed over 20 lives, a "good guy with a gun" is almost never in position to stop a mass shooter. And even a momentary delay can prove deadly. In Dayton, where this weekend's other mass shooting happened, the police killed the gunman within 60 seconds of him opening fire. There's basically no way that anyone could respond faster. Yet in that 60 seconds, the gunman was able to kill 9 people and wound over two dozen. The response isn't to have more guns on the street but fewer, and especially fewer military style assault weapons. You don't need these guns for hunting or self defense. You only need them to kill lots of people in a short amount of time. Get rid of them. Get rid of magazines which hold more than a few rounds, you don't need them for legitimate uses.

LOL. Just like the old wild west. There were no bank robberies or shootings back in those days, right. What happens on Saturday night in clubs and bars when fights break out and bullets are flying everywhere?

Yes. Let all people carry guns all of the time. So, if there is an accidental discharge of a firearm, everybody will start getting their gun out, and everyone will start shooting anyone who has a gun in hand.
Your solution is favored by gun makers because all they ever want to do is to sell more guns.

No, this is exceptionally stupid.
The key element in such mass shootings is SURPRISE. I don't care how Chuck Norris-y you think that you are, if you have an open carry and a shooting starts near you, you WILL be afraid and very startled, and from such a starting point, you are far more likely to shoot additional innocent people due to you being so SURPRISED.
At Pearl Harbor in 1941, there were thousands of US troops there with LOTS of guns. Yet, due to the Japanese attack being such a SURPRISE, they were unable to offer any meaningful resistance, and in fact, they shot down several US aircraft in all the confusion.

Most mass shooters are quite aware that men with guns (aka, law enforcement) will appear within minutes of them beginning their carnage. Yet it doesn't seem to deter them. Of course, getting shot dead stops the assault at some point. But it does seem to prevent it.

Easier?
Open carry already is easy to obtain. Just be old enough, don’t be a criminal, and have $100+ you’re willing to spend
- Anonymous2 years ago
yeah but we should also have age restrictions for certain guns. 20 something males are usually the shooters

If I was going to shoot a bunch of innocent people, I’d kill the guy with the gun first. So by all means, wear a gun on your hip and allow natural selection to take its course
