Is the Septuagint reliable since it was used by the Jews or did Christians mess it up?

The Septuagint is the original source of Christian Old testament... .. Together with 27 NT books, as contained in the Latin Vulgate, it is the canonized and authorized version of our Holy Scriptures.

Neither.

The Septuagint is merely a translation and therefore is subject to the same "lost in translation" issues that all translations have.

Thus, there is no reason why one should view it as somehow "special" in comparison to any other translation.

It was also used by Jesus and the Apostles.

Jesus' followers (who were Jewish) knew and used the Septuagint in their teaching and writing. It is a translation of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek, the work of which began about 300 years before Jesus was born on earth. Christians have done nothing to the Septuagint.

Septuagint (LXX) was created by certain Jews who disobeyed God, and went back to Egypt, even the then capital of it ... Alexandria - which happened to be the center for gnostic thought and man-made philosophies. In this location, there were a lot of cults... who didn't mind twisting the Scriptures. If you are going for a word for word literal translation style, rather than men's alterations and paraphrases stick with the Antiochan line, textus receptus, majority text. I am not an expert on either Greek or Hebrew.. The Septuagint is a translation. Whether or not it is a good translation is up to scholars to determine.

But, the original language texts are always more reliable than translations, especially as a source material for translations into other languages.

The Septuagint isn't used in Judaism. They use the Pentateuch. Thats the same as our first five books of the KJV JESUS BLESS YOU

It's a Greek translation of the Torah, it's not something that the Jewish people would have used! As for reliable, you can write a fairy story in any language, it's still a fairy story!
