Did people sound different in the 80s/90s?

When I watch old movies, I feel like people sounded different. I don't think it's just a matter of the audio quality or whatever, like the voices sound like they have a slight accent or something. More specifically, I think teenage girls sound different. Also some clarifications: I'm not talking about regional accents, slang, or the same person's voice changing over the years. I'm generally asking everybody in society.

Well, I can tell you that a lot less men spoke with a lisp and overturned their hands when speaking.

Hard to say without specifics. The Valley Girl accent was trendy then, n' stuff. Easy for it to invade Hollywood. Fo' sure! Gag me with a spoon!

    People sounded happier back then.
