Why are police allowed to use tear gas and pepper spray on citizen, when the military is not allowed to use it?
Tear gas and pepper spray are considered chemical weapons, so the military is not allowed to use them, but the police can use them against citizens. Why is this allowed?

The military uses pepper spray for law enforcement and detainee operations.
"Chemical weapons" are banned for use in warfare. Tear gas isn't specifically named, but is lumped in there for some reason. Note, the US military uses it on its own troops for chem warfare training. The US also reserves the right under the 1925 conventions to use it as a riot control agent in detainee ops, during PR missions, and for convoy protection. The 1993 CWC also allows it for riot control.
It isn't that bad if you are smart enough to get out of the cloud.
Would you prefer that the police use Geneva Convention approved weapons, like HEDP 40mm grenades on rioters?

The police isn’t using “tear gas”. That is a generic term the idiots in media are using to incite emotional outbursts from the easily misled. Also, no one is banned from using OC or pepper spray. You can buy it at Walmart.

Because the police can't use grenades and mortars and automatic weapons with FMJ bullets against the mobs.
I'm sure riots would stop pretty damn quick if the cops opened up a couple of .50 cal machine guns on them.
Are you in favor of that?

The military uses OC, or Oleoresin Capsicum, also known as pepper spray. They use it for the same reason; crowd control. The military does not use offensive chemical weapons in combat. There is a difference between crowd control and combat.

So if the military is allowed to used guns should the police do that instead?
