Would it be possible for California to become its own country ?

Ok, when you saw the word “country” you probably thought I referred to sovereign states like France, Japan, Brazil , etc... But there are non  sovereign states that are countries like Scotland and England, those two are countries but they are not sovereign states, they are part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. And then there is Taiwan and Hong Kong who are owned by China but have very little similarities with China. Would it be possible for California to become its own country , still owned by the US, but have the authority to issue it’s own passport, it’s own currency, have its own flag , but most importantly be able to make and enforce laws without the consent of the US federal government

California is absolutely its own country. Not because it reads Republic of California right on its flag, because actually it reads California Republic

Not because on its own, all by itself, California is the 6th largest economy of the world, because it's not on its own. But because it's the Jewell in the Crown of America.

It would require some mechanism to be put into the Constitution to do it.

Technically Texas is a Republic and they have an out clause in the original agreement to become a state.  But they are the only ones who do.

California hosts so many military bases that the US government would never allow it to just toddle off on its own.

It would be difficult but it would be possible.  There is a lot in that state and it would be more capable of becoming self sufficient than most other states in the Union.  Texas is another state that would have ability to do so and to likely get by fairly well.    At one time, Vermont was talking about doing that but they may have ended up deep in the economic sh*t if they had done so and I think they were very smart to halt on the idea.  California might possibly have the ability to become a "sovereign state", with the ability to make it's own rules and not be owned by anyone else, but that would be far more difficult.

One other thing, if California DID succeed from the Union, it would not hurt my feelings since there is so much evil there that it is almost uncomprehendable.  In fact, the Satanic Bible was written in Los Angeles. There are more scammers, rip off artists and dishonest business practicers in California than there probably are in the rest of the nation put together.   I like that Movie "Escape" where Los Angelos became a penal colony which was no longer part of the USA.

I think KaleyK hit the nail on the head.

A more likely state for that would be Hawaii.

YES it's possible.  For any state to secede requires permission from the federal government.  So while yes it's possible, it is highly unlikely.
