New single cat/kitten advice! ?

Hi all! I know this can be a bit of a complicated subject but I’m hoping to get some advice/help! We’re unable to get two kittens for a variety of reasons. We’re working closely with some shelters to find one little guy who is independent and would manage well being the only cat. Due to this we know he’ll be a little older, we’re hoping about 6 months because we definitely need him under a year. I know people have of course gotten single kittens before, I’d some some tips and advice for how to ensure he’s the happiest he can be! We already are grabbing multiple trees, scratchers tons of (non catnip) toys and some great puzzles but if there’s more we can/should do I’d love to know! Thank you!!!

Get any cat at all. All cats manage well without other cats around. Adult cats do not naturally spend time closely with other cats unless it's a mother cat with kittens. I've had cats all my life. I've had as many as four at one time. None of them played with any other cat. One of them actively did not like other cats and gave them a hard time to the point where one of them needed medication for anxiety.

I once had two cats who were brothers. They lived all their lives together until one of them died suddenly at 2 years old. I never saw any sign that the remaining cat missed his brother. Even cat breeds known for being sociable may not want to socialize with other cats. They want to socialize with you.

Get some toys that he can use on his own, like kicker toys, and get some toys that you will use to play with him, like a feather on a string.

I would also get some catnip, lots of cats love it.  My cat loves it, but it doesn't make her hyper, she just relaxes.
