Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and beginning April 20th, 2021 (Eastern Time) the Yahoo Answers website will be in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

What did I do wrong  on Yahoo Answers?

I got an email just after I started using this website saying that I had "violated the terms and conditions " etc and was given a warning about how my account could be terminated if I did that again.

I have absolutely NO idea as to what I did wrong.

It would have been a huge help to me if those who sent this mail had included some link to whatever it was that was wrong.

I cant fix what I cant find!

In any court of law anywhere in the world ( even in totalitarian states) an accused person is told both what the nature of their crime is and when and where they did it!

Update:

Thank you for the courteous advice linkus86 and also Audrey.

It has been a while since I got this message and have no idea what answer I gave that was considered offensive to someone.

I try to be informative and polite as a rule but having stated atheist credentials occasionally when answering questions by christians (questions directed specifically to atheists) I must assume that one of them did not "turn the other cheek" and chose to be nasty.

Rather like Mr mark big sky boat man did.....

I have experienced the same thing. It certainly seems like if there was something done they don't want to happen any more they would have identified what that was. Since they do not identify the problem (I was just as clueless as you were) those notices have no chance of correcting anything. That makes the motivation of those threatening notices a complete mystery.

Perhaps nothing.  It's an automated email that is sent based on who "reports" what you posted, but the reports aren't really reviewed for accuracy.

A number of users reported something you posted.

The AUTOMATED system accepted the reports as a violation.

NO HUMAN at Yahoo Answers has even seen the post.

I get such a 'violation' notice every few months, and can rarely find what post it refers to, much less what is allegedly wrong.

In theory, you can appeal, but I have never seen any evidence anyone ever looks at appeals.

The trolls likely falsely reported you.  It is standard practice on here.  They took control of the site years ago...and somehow they never get violations even when their answers contradict law to the point of being harmful and violating civil rights.  With matters of opinion, even if you politely disagree with them, they report you.

most people on here are clueless, most answers are FACTUALLY wrong and people refuse to educate themselves....them they report the answer that is factually correct and supported with reliable sources.

You are free to hire a lawyer and sue Yahoo.  Then you would have the right to know.

the john wayne q was written offensively.  but that is not the issue as it is still up..funny how that wasn't considered a violation.

if you do in fact have multiple accounts, that is a violation.  There is a mother/son that shares a computer/internet account and they were kicked off for multiple accounts even though they are 2 separate people..

Yahoo doesn’t ever tell you what you did wrong. I got my old account suspended and I was not given any warning or reason for my suspension. I don’t troll, and I can’t think of any rules I violated. I was pissed because I was only a few points shy of reaching level 7, and I had to start over. There’s so many trolls that have multiple accounts that don’t seem to ever get suspended. And most of the questions that get reported and removed are not actually violating the TOS. they just get reported by people who disagree with it. This happens constantly in the politics section. It seems like this site has been completely taken over by trolls.

Read the terms and conditions of using the Q&A forum... fact is someone or more than one person would have reported your question for any or no reason and that is why it was auto removed by YA as it is deemed "against community guidlines/term and conditions" ... YA have no clue about 'what you did wrong' its just auto remove when it is reported......

There is a link to the website terms and community guidelines at the lower left hand corner of any page on Yahoo Answers.  You were made aware of these terms and agreed to abide by them when you signed up to participate in the Yahoo Answers forum, you just likely don't remember doing so.  If you are unaware of your mistake, perhaps you need to reread the terms of service.  Also be aware that these terms are not a matter of law, thus not subject to courts.  Also there is a category specifically designed to address such issues listed on the left hand margin at the bottom.

It's a question Mr Mark big sky boat man.

That is why it has a question mark.

I simply want to find out what I did wrong at the very beginning of my time on this site.

    Not a lot to ask.

    Rather arrogant of you though.

If you cant actually help, dont bother trying.

Most people on this website are actually very helpful and dont sneer as you do!

It is not fair but they've been doing that for years. They never tell you what you did. I lost my first account with 216,000 points that it took me 5 years to earn and they NEVER TOLD ME WHY.  So sorry this happened to you.
