Is first created day includes genesis 1:1 or does it start with verse 2? ?

If god created the heavens and earth verse1 then verse 2 the earth was formless and watery deep. If verse 2 is the start of the first created day then the earth could very well be millions or billions years old then god turn his attention to the earth at verse 2 after all the created days are about the earth not universe

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

    End of sentence. Period.

How long did it take to create the heavens and the earth,

it does not state in Genesis 1 a period of time between verses 1 and 2.

The first day did not start till God divided the light from the darkness and called the light day and the darkness night.

Genesis 1:5 “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

The "days" of creation would have been better translated as "times" of varying length.  Yes, creation took billions of years.  It wasn't accomplished in six 24-hour days, much less consecutive ones.

In a nutshell< the account of creation as we have it in the Bible appears to be when the Lord actually "renewed" the earth.

It appears that there could well be billions of years between verse one and verse two in Genesis chapter one.

The reason is that the word 'was" actually reads "became" in verse two (i.e. the earth became without form and void) which suggests that the earth was at one time as we know it today but something had happened to it to render it a shapeless mass and a dead planet.

Onwards from these first two verses seems to be when the Lord actually "renewed" the earth and at this time created man.

Genesis 1:1 KJV — In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

The beginning refers to the time of creation of the universe. Its a prelude to the events that follow.

    Look at verse 5

Genesis 1:5 KJV — And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Everything beginning with 1:1 to verse 5 was accomplished the first day.

    This should clarify

Exodus 20:11 — For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

    Scripture always interprets scripture.

    >>>>after all the created days are about the earth not universe<<<<

    Not so....

Genesis 1:14-19 KJV — And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

    Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created (bara) the heaven and the earth.

It does not state when the heavens and earth were created or if they were created at the same time. It could have been the same time, but it could have been a few years, a hundreds years, even thousands of years apart. It doesn’t say …..so we don’t know.

But what it does say is that both the heavens and the earth were created. Additionally the Hebrew particle (‘eth) before both “the heavens” and “the earth” emphasize the article “the”, which distinguishes them both from the proceeding event of verse 2.

    Genesis 1:2

And the earth was (hayah) without form, and void (tohu va bohu); and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

While “hayah” has been translated was in most English versions including the LXX. In the original Hebrew ….there was no verb “to be” (which is translated “was”) However there is a verb “to become”, which is how this should be translated. The second “was” in this verse was added by translators as there was/is no corresponding word in that place.

“And the Earth BECAME without form and void…” Is how the text should read.

God had created both the heavens and the earth, but it was the earth that became an empty wasteland.

Isaiah states that God created the earth NOT in vain tohuw (wasteland), but formed it to be inhabited.

Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

Although I can speculate and theorize (based on scripture) as to what took place between Genesis 1:1 & 1:2 the Word is not clear as to what exactly happened….so I do not know. What I do know is, from Genesis 1:2 to 1:21, God did not create anything again until the 5th day when He created soul life in “great whales and every living creature (chay nephesh) that moveth”…

I do believe (Gen 1:3-31) is about God RE-CREATING this earth in six days.

Many christians assume (Gen 1:1) is the start of God creating this earth in 6 days but verse 2 cancels that idea out.

v:2 And the earth was without FORM, and VOID; and DARKNESS was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

    (caps mine)

How long this earth was without form and void we do not know but it wasn't on the first day as some christians say!

The word darkness "chosek" (Hebrew)  is associated with judgment from God .

e.g (2Sam 2:9) ..and the wicked shall be silent in darkness.

So God BEFORE (Gen 1:3) judged this earth which left it without form and void and darkness (judgment)

For what reason did God judge the earth?

Us human beings are not the only creation God ever created.

Why is it not possible God created other "beings" on this earth thousands, or millions, or billions of years ago -- creatures or spirit "beings" that served God and for some reason rebelled against him and were judged?

When did satan arrive on this earth? We don't know but it was before God created us.

Could he have been part or leader of this rebellion against God?

Satan just didn't pop up out of nowhere in the garden of Eden to tempt Adam and Eve.

He was living somewhere on this earth and had access to enter the garden of Eden virtually unopposed!

We don't know Gods perfect will on all this but he was in control of it all.

I contend this earth is much older than 6,000 years old and that young earth creationists are misleading many christians on the age of this earth.

    THE BEGINNING

The material heavens and earth are created. Genesis 1:1.

    DARKNESS

The earth is formless, desolate, and dark. Genesis 1:2.

    FIRST DAY

Diffused light evidently penetrates the earth’s atmosphere. If there had been any observer on the surface of the earth, the sources of light would have been imperceptible to him. Yet, the difference between night and day became discernible. Genesis 1:3-5.

    SECOND DAY

The earth is covered with water and a dense mantle of vapor. These two elements are separated, creating a gap between the watery surface and the canopy of vapor. The Bible describes this space as “an expanse between the waters,” and calls it “Heaven.” Genesis 1:6-8.

    THIRD DAY

Surface water subsides and dry ground appears. The atmosphere clears up to allow more sunlight to reach the ground. Some vegetation appears, with new species sprouting through the third and subsequent creative days. Genesis 1:9-13.

    FOURTH DAY

The sun and moon become discernible from the earth’s surface. Genesis 1:14-19.

    FIFTH DAY

God creates underwater creatures and flying creatures in great numbers with the ability to procreate within their kinds. Genesis 1:20-23.

    SIXTH DAY

Land animals are created, both large and small. The sixth day culminates with a masterpiece of God’s physical creation: the first human couple. Genesis 1:24-31.
