"The Pacific" costume question:?

Some of the combat marines' helmets were worn with the liner flap over their necks. Was this intentional neck shade, or did the liners just wear out in combat?

It was done intentionally, although probably not designed intentionally, to protect the neck from the sun during campaigns like Okinawa where sunstroke was a big  concern.

The purpose was intentional, so as to ward off sunstroke for combat soldiers in the heat of the Pacific.

The term "leather necks" came about when the Jefferson Administration decided to invade Libya that had been raiding and tacking U.S. Sailors as hostages.

The leather neck was supposed to wield off strikes from the mooslum terrorist/kidnappers!
